Course Description:
This course focuses on the integration of the computer as a tool for teaching writing in the elementary school to develop communication and literacy skills. The course will focus on the writing process, the Pennsylvania Literacy Framework, Internet integration, practical applications and new technologies available for the classroom technology based instruction.
The projects assigned will revolve around developing a knowledge base of technology resources available for writing instruction.


Course Requirements


BLOG PROJECT
Each participant will be required to respond to the class blog on a weekly basis. In addition, they are to create a blog that they may use with their students. The blog will be created on http://classblogmeister.com.


Instructional Plan Project
Each participant will select and read a book related to a content area and develop 4 technology based writing lesson plans, include a rubric for grading the student writing assignment for each writing type (Narrative, Informational, Persuasive, Functional) .


Wiki Project
Each participant will create a wiki (http://www.wikispaces.com) based on their book. (The instructor will provide a sample wiki designed on a book for use in developing your own wiki.) Be as imaginative as you can be using many of the new technologies shared by the instructor.


Storytelling Project
Each participant will design a technology based storytelling project using new technologies covered in class. The teacher will create the project as the student.


NEWSLETTER PROJECT
Select a grade appropriate topic in a content area (math, science, social studies, etc). Research the Internet for sites and materials related to the topic as if you were the students in your class. Pretending you are the student, create a newsletter on that topic. For example: endangered species.
